The "Baba Sultan" Mosque: Architectural Marvel in Bursa, Turkey

The Baba Sultan Mosque was opened to worshippers in 2023 in the Yenişehir district of Bursa, Turkey.

The mosque is distinguished by its unique architectural design, which conceals profound cosmic meanings behind it.

Made of a steel structure, the mosque features a circular shape, appearing as a small point when viewed from above. The mosque's ceiling is adorned with crescent and star-shaped lighting.

With a diameter of 24 meters, the mosque symbolizes the number of hours in a day.

The mosque was designed by architect Ali Tariq Bakshawi, who explained to Anadolu Agency's correspondent that the meanings behind the mosque's design are more important than its external appearance.

Bakshawi said: "The mosque's shape is circular. When viewed from above, it indicates the necessity for humans to realize that they are a point, indeed a small particle in this universe."

He added: "The half of the dome symbolizes the temporary worldly life, while the other half with the golden color symbolizes the afterlife. Thus, we have an architectural design that reminds us that if we live a life that pleases God, then we will transition to an afterlife whose value is greater than the value of gold in this world."

Bakshawi pointed out that the mosque has 12 windows, and the direction of the shadow inside the mosque changes according to the sun's position.

He explained that the mosque's carpets have a three-dimensional design, giving a sensation as if something is pushing you forward, as if urging worshippers to hasten to the front rows.

Bakshawi also noted that the mosque's single minaret, bearing the name of Allah, symbolizes the oneness of God.
