‘Salah’s Rock’ Turns into a Global Tourist Attraction in Trabzon

A rock where Egyptian football superstar Mohamed Salah, a player for Turkish club Trabzonspor, once sat has been transformed into a domestic and international tourist attraction in the Kurt Deresi highlands of Turkey.

A photo taken by Salah in the Trabzon highlands attracted widespread attention from fans and visitors, turning the rock where he sat during a sightseeing trip into a popular tourist spot visited by his admirers to take commemorative photos.

Salah had shared photos of himself sitting on a rock during his visit to the picturesque Kurtdere Plateau in Trabzon Province, northeastern Turkey.

Turkish social media users quickly reacted to the photos, sharing videos showing visitors flocking to the site and standing in long lines to take pictures at the rock and imitate the sitting pose Salah had struck. Some even began calling it “Selahtaşı,” a Turkish name meaning “Salah’s Rock.”

Activists documented the large crowds arriving at the site through videos and photos, showing visitors lining up and waiting for their turn to sit on the rock.

In response to the growing interest in the site, Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality placed a bench next to the rock, along with a sign bearing the name “Salah Highlands,” providing visitors with a designated spot to take photos and enjoy the location.

Salah quickly won the hearts of Trabzonspor fans and local residents after scoring a hat-trick against Galatasaray and providing an assist over the weekend
