Erdogan Announces Financial Support for Turkish Families to Help with Childbirth Costs
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan just signed a new presidential decree allowing families to apply for childbirth assistance.
The decision, published in the official gazette, is part of the government's move to declare 2025 the “Year of the Family.” The goal? To encourage people to have more kids by offering direct financial support.
So, what’s the deal?
Starting January 1, 2025, families can get money through the Social Solidarity and Assistance Fund — no taxes or deductions.
Here’s how the support breaks down:
-
First child: One-time payment of 5,000 Turkish lira
-
Second child: 1,500 lira per month
-
Third child and beyond: 5,000 lira per month
These payments will continue monthly until the child turns five. The money goes straight into the mother’s bank account.
Who can apply?
-
Either parent must be a Turkish citizen living in Turkey.
-
For the first child, you have 12 months after the birth to apply.
-
For the second child and up, you can apply until the child turns 5.
How to apply?
-
Through the government’s online portal (e-Devlet)
-
Or by visiting local Family and Social Services offices
Important notes:
-
The money is protected — it can’t be seized for any reason.
-
If someone cheats the system, they’ll have to pay the money back with interest, and legal action might be taken.
