The Fatih Municipality in Istanbul has scented the Hagia Sophia Mosque, cleaned it, and washed it with rose water in preparation for the blessed month of Ramadan.
Fatih Mayor, Mehmet Ergün Turan, said during his visit to the site: “We are about to welcome the month of Ramadan, a month of goodness and mercy."
He added: "Ramadan is different in the Islamic world compared to other months. The Fatih district is one of the most beautiful areas that suits the spirit of Ramadan in our region, throughout history."
He continued: "Ramadan is special in Fatih. Muslims from all over Istanbul, Turkey, and other countries visit our mosques. As institutions, we are making our preparations. In Fatih, we have nearly 560 mosques."
Mayor Turan said: “In Fatih Municipality, we carry out a special cleaning campaign in all our mosques before Ramadan, and we then scent the large mosques with rose water and perfumes. We are doing this today at the Hagia Sophia Mosque, for example. Ramadan is a month of abundance and solidarity. It is also a month of recognizing its value."
