Türkiye local newspapers have revealed that Istanbul is preparing for a strong snowstorm coming from Siberia, expected to last for four days, causing a sharp drop in temperatures with snowfall potentially reaching 30 cm in some areas.
Meteorologists have warned that Friday and Saturday will be the most affected days by the snowstorm, with the possibility of school closures on Thursday and Friday.
Media outlets have reported that the snowfall, which will coincide with the cold air mass from the Black Sea, is expected to last for four days in Istanbul.
The city is expected to experience heavy snowfall starting on Tuesday night, transforming into a snowstorm by Wednesday, continuing intermittently until Sunday.
The cold polar air is expected to lower temperatures to -6°C, which will help increase the filling rate of dams from 60% to 70%.
Abdullah Majid, a weather forecasting expert at the General Directorate of Meteorology in the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, stated, "The weather will be rainy in Istanbul today, and there will be sleet on Wednesday."
He added, "We expect the snowfall to continue intermittently until Monday, with heavy snow expected on Friday and Saturday."
Abdullah Majid confirmed that temperatures will range between 0 and 2°C during the day, while at night they will drop to between -1 and -2°C, increasing the likelihood of frost in some areas.
